Happy Easter! Christ is Risen! It is the mystery that we confess every day, and we celebrate in a very special way on Easter Sunday. He rose; and then death has no power over Him. The Liturgy of the Church proclaims, O death, I shall be your death! The Lord overcame death, and now reigns forever, and assures us that if we die with Him, one day, we shall rise with Him.
The mystery of the resurrection has two levels: there is a physical resurrection, the resurrection of the bodies; it will be given to us provided that we have followed Christ in this life. And there is a resurrection of the spirit, when a person passes from sin to grace. We were given this life on the day of our Baptism; on that day we rose with Christ and give thanks to Him. And this life is called to grow, and we receive the sacraments, we practice charity and devote ourselves to prayer. If this life weakens, the Lord gives us particular graces; if we welcome them in our lives, then we grow spiritually.
And the Cross is the most powerful help for this new life, because we liken to Christ; and where Christ is, there is life, joy, peace and all good things also. That’s why we think that God permitted the sufferings of the pandemics. It has been permitted for good; as though a reminder that we are created for an eternal blessing, but not on earth. We have to pass over, as Jesus did. It is true that the virus took away many things from us, even corporeal lives; but the virus couldn’t take away love, faith, and hope. How many people do good to others in the way they can honestly do! Some will speak, or sing, or serve, or accompany, etc., and God does not forget them; they have put themselves at the service of others. God will not forget them. Even if they forget their good deeds; it doesn’t matter: God does not forget.
The Resurrection of Christ says how God permitted the sufferings of the Passion for our good. The Resurrection of Christ proclaims how the blessing of God comes with the Cross; the Glory of the Risen Lord declares what Christian life is after all:
